Celebrated June 14, Flag Day is a day for U.S. citizens to honor their country's flag. Flag Day was first observed in a Wisconsin school on June 14, 1885. The teacher who initiated the first Flag Day observance launched a national campaign, which spurred schools and cities around the nation to begin similar observances.
In 1949, President Truman signed a proclamation declaring June 14th of each year as National Flag Day.
